Devon Bridge High Tower Emergency Work
Under this Emergency Work Order Garg Consulting Services, Inc. (Garg) performed engineering services to design the replacement of frayed guy wires supporting the three Catenary High Towers (862, 862A, and 863) at the Devon Bridge (Br. 08080R M.P. 60.42 on the Metro-North Railroad New Haven Line). Garg also provided engineering support during construction.

Completed Tasks

- Performed a visual site survey from ground level emphasizing the anchorages of the equalizing strands for the end towers 862 and 863.
- Provided signed and sealed drawings, per the Connecticut Digital Projects Development Manual, showing staging plans and construction sequence to be used when replacing the existing equalizing strands and ground lines.
- When issues with the original staging plans occurred, Garg provided staging loads and recommendations based on a modified construction sequence as needed.
- Investigation of modifications to the existing equalizing cables either by adjusting the cable tension or adding cables to maximize the strength of the existing high towers and by obtaining loads that are as balanced on the tower legs as possible.
