MDC Facilities – Roof Capacity Analysis (Various Structures) Hartford, CT

The 2015-2016 building code adopted by the State of Connecticut is the 2003 International Building Code (IBC) with Connecticut amendments through 2013. In the Fall of 2016, the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services adopted the 2012 IBC. For this analysis, Garg used the 2012 IBC as well as the Connecticut amendments to the 2003 IBC as applicable to the 2012 IBC, whichever produced the most conservative result.

MIDAS Software Engineering Midas Gen® building analysis software was procured and used for the analyses. This software was developed specifically for the design and analysis of building structures and resulted in a reduction in manhours through the efficiency of the product.

Completed Tasks

- Garg performed a complete roof analysis for 17 high priority structures including all levels of varying height roofs and canopies attached to the structures.
- Roofs were first analyzed to determine if they meet current building codes.
- For the analysis, only the structural members directly supporting the roof were analyzed.
- For rigid frame structures, this included the columns as well as roof beams.
