This project was a $38.2 Million upgrade of the Bedford Park Boulevard Station on the IND Concourse Line in the Bronx in order to bring the station into ADA compliance. Major work elements included the installation of an elevator from the street level to the unpaid side of the full-time mezzanine, the installation of two elevators between the paid side of the upper mezzanine and the platform levels, construction of two new elevator machine rooms, reconfiguration of some of the existing station back-of-house spaces to allow for the introduction of the elevators and machine rooms, relocation of existing street utilities, removal of out-of-service staircases between the lower mezzanine and the platform levels, and the installation of a new bus slab. The project was completed in 26 months and commissioned in June 2020.

Garg provided field mechanical engineering services. Garg staff was deployed to supervise, inspect, provide responses to RFIs, review of documents and submittals for conformance to the NYCT requirements. Garg provided input during shop drawing submittal review, construction, and coordination of this work with other ongoing NYCT, NYC, and private contracts that impacted this project, including night and weekend work as the construction schedule dictated.

Garg staff performed daily surveillance and inspections to verify that the work of the Construction Contractor was completed in accordance with the requirements of the construction contract documents, approved shop drawings and catalog cuts. Staff prepared daily inspection reports showing the Construction Contractors’ total labor force and by specific trade, the location of the construction activities, hours of work, special conditions, equipment used, and the actual work being performed.
