Construction Engineering & Inspection for the Commodore Hull Bridge
This Project involved the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 00571. Garg’s responsibilities included steel repairs, localized painting, substructure repair, upgrades to the lower inspection catwalk, and general repairs to the fencing, railing, drainage, and navigation system. The purpose of this project was to extend the useful life of this bridge.

Completed Tasks

- Replacement of the longitudinal joint in Span 6 with a Silicone Expansion Joint System.
- Cleaning and painting areas of rust and delimitation on the fixed areas and expansion bearings.
- Painting the ends of steel plate girders, ends of floor beams, ends of stringers, and ends of trusses below existing joints (including the steel bents at piers 8 and 11).
- Patching spall areas and repairing cracks on the existing substructure concrete piers.
- The repair of weep holes, broken pipes, and the unclogging/cleaning of the bridge scuppers for the drainage system.
- Repairs to the steel members with excessive section loss and existing steel rocker bearings.
- Repairs to damaged railing and fencing.
- The damaged portions of the catwalk were repaired and brought to conformance with OSHA requirements.
- Installation of a 6’-0” high chain link security fence with a curved top to prevent access to the lower catwalk at Pier No. 11.
- Repairs to the existing damaged navigational light system and any associated conductors, transformers, conduits, or junction boxes as well as replacement of the Navigational Lights.
