Project Profile

The purpose of the CTDOT 2024 Station Inspection Program was to establish current (2024) conditions of the platforms/canopies, station buildings, pedestrian bridges (including tunnels), and commuter parking lots to develop a state of good repair and improvement program for the fifty (50) commuter rail stations in the New Haven Line network in Connecticut. Field visits consisting of an evaluation, visual inspection, and limited physical testing of the platforms/canopies, station buildings, pedestrian bridges (including tunnels), and parking (surface) were conducted to evaluate each station. Based on the evaluation at each station, a list of proposed State of Good Repair items and conceptual-level cost estimates was generated.

Garg Consulting Services, Inc. (Garg) provided support for Mechanical HVAC, Low Voltage Power, and High Voltage Power components at each of the 50 stations. This included performing field reviews, creating a report on the conditions and any deficiencies found, and creating a preliminary cost estimate list for the proposed repairs. Reported deficiencies included equipment with physical defects, safety hazards, equipment past its life expectancy, and items that were not in code and ADA compliance. The Electrical and Communications elements included but were not limited to emergency lighting systems, backup power systems, electrical panels, passenger information displays, and security systems. The Mechanical HVAC elements included but were not limited to HVAC systems, elevators, escalators, and drainage.
