Project Profile

The existing Wheel Mill facility has been in operation at New Haven Yard for over 60 years, since the Penn-Central era. This project will make improvements to the building and milling equipment and upgrade the operating systems to allow for efficient use of the facility and to meet current ADA requirements, safety requirements, and building codes. The proposed improvements include, but are not limited to, a refurbished wheel milling machine, complete building shell replacement with the foundation, floor, pit, and approach slabs, all-new heating and ventilation systems, an expanded welfare addition including a bathroom, a common office area with lockers, overhead doors, an overhead crane, air compressors, facility security, an IT system, a chip conveyance system, a Blue Light system, electrical and lighting systems, and parking lot site improvements. Approximately 200 feet of track on the West and East approach to the building will be replaced and reprofiled to eliminate existing track settlement problems and to raise the finish floor as much as possible. The track building will also be replaced. The site will be regraded, adjacent drainage structures shall be modified, and the system extended and improved as necessary.

Garg will perform the following contract tasks as related to developing contract documents for the following design disciplines:

  • Site Utilities (Electrical)
  • Electrical:
    • Electrical one-line diagram and floor power plan.
    • Electrical roof lighting protection plan and power plan.
    • Panelboard schedule, conductor schedule, and grounding details.
    • Electrical room floor plan and elevation details.
    • Lighting luminaire schedule and lighting floor plan and details.
  • Blue Light:
    • Local blue flag panel layout, light 37A and 37B switch machine circuit, event recorder and battery chargers, CCTV, and blue flag floor layout.
    • Signal room layout.
    • Derail 37A and 37B layouts.
  • Fire Alarm:
    • Fire alarm detection riser diagram.
    • Fire detection floor plan 1.
