Project Profile
This Construction Engineering and Inspection project consisted of resurfacing and safety improvements on I-95. The project started at the Baldwin Bridge in Old Saybrook and terminated at Interchange 72 in East Lyme (Rocky Neck Connector in Old Lyme) for a total of 5.5 miles. This project included milling and overlay of the entire project limits, installation of a concrete median barrier curb, upgrading the existing guiderail, and bridge safety-related improvements.
The project tasks included, but were not limited to:
- Clearing and grubbing, including selected on-site disposal areas.
- Sedimentation control at all cross-drain outlets, including seven (7) Environmental Sensitive Areas.
- Widening of I-95 to provide work zone protection using barriers.
- Installation of a permanent median and bridge protective barrier.
- Upgrade of existing highway drainage.
- All construction survey verification.
- Concrete pavement repair.
- Milling and paving in stages, utilizing HMA.
- Milling and paving the Baldwin Bridge utilizing thin-lift PMA.
- Providing information as directed by the Project Engineer and all controls for relocations and installations.
- Temporary and permanent pavement marking.
- Inspection of all construction activities.
- All on-the-job testing and sampling of materials as specified.
- The performance of all necessary field density tests.
- Coordination and implementation of all engineering, technical, and administrative determinations.
- Investigating and facilitating resolutions to technical problems or design issues.
