Project Profile
This Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) design project will provide preliminary and final design services for Customer Service Initiative (CSI) upgrades at 28 New Haven Line stations along the New Haven Main Line, New Canaan Branch, and Danbury Branch.
The design of the upgrades builds on similar work by Metro North on the New York portion of the New Haven Line and includes Platform Information Displays (PIDs), Customer Information Displays (CIDs), Arrival/Departure Boards (ADBs), Speakers, and Ambient Microphones for the new Public Address/Visual Information System (PA/VIS). The work includes integration of message control and information between the new system, existing MNR PA/VIS backend systems, and CTrail/Amtrak messaging and announcement systems. The project also includes elevator/escalator monitoring systems, as well as related work including foundations, under-platform support, and fiber optic backbone tie-in.
Garg Consulting Services, Inc. (Garg) is providing electrical engineering, power distribution, and communications design services for ten of the stations in the program: all four stations on the New Canaan Branch and six of seven on the Danbury Branch (all except Merrit 7). Tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Design of Communications systems upgrades including public address (PA) installed audio with ambient noise sensing, Passenger Information Display System (PIDS) including platform displays, customer information displays, and arrival/departure boards located on station platforms.
- Designs for data connections from each subsystem to the DLC or fiber drop cabinet at each station and electrical designs for supplying power to the new equipment
- Complete 30% Schematic, 60% Design Development, 90% Contract Documents, 100% Final Design Documents, and the FDP for the upgrades for Electrical and Communications divisions and subsets.
- Field review of the proposed design and existing conditions.
