Garg performed comprehensive safety inspections of two hundred eighty (280) high-tension towers and sixty-six (66) signal bridges on the Long Island Railroad (LIRR), covering the mainline, Atlantic Branch, Montauk Branch, Oyster Bay Branch, Port Jefferson Branch, and Port Washington Branch. The inspections were conducted in accordance with the Long Island Railroad Bridge Inspection Guide, AREMA standards, NYSDOT requirements, and NBIS guidelines.

The major project tasks included the following:

  • Planning, scheduling, and coordinating each inspection with LIRR flagging and signals departments, as necessary.
  • Performing comprehensive inspections of each high tower, including 100% hands-on access for the bottom 10 feet and visual inspections above 10 feet to assess the structure’s physical condition.
  • Performing comprehensive inspections of each signal bridge with hands-on access to 100% of the structure where feasible.
  • Documenting structural deficiencies through field sketches, measurements, and photographs.
  • Updating existing CAD sketches or preparing new ones to accurately record observed deterioration.
  • Prioritizing maintenance recommendations as required and submitting Safety, Yellow and Red flags according to LIRR guidelines. Providing proper documentation for all previously submitted and addressed safety and condition flags.
  • Compiling all the information to create a final report using LIRR’s HEXAGON software
  • Conducting internal QA/QC review of all inspection procedures and reports prior to submittal to LIRR.
  • Ensuring all inspectors completed 4-hour LIRR Roadway Worker Protection training.
