Project Profile
This project consists of the replacement and expansion of the Portal North Bridge meant for railroad transportation in the Northeast Corridor from New York to New Jersey. This new Portal Bridge will be a better option than the one built in 1910 by the Pennsylvania Railroad. It will provide safe, reliable, and nondisruptive travel for an increasing number of passengers.
The plan is construction of retaining walls, deep foundations, concrete piers, structural steel bridge spans, rail systems, demolition of the existing bridge, and other related works.
Garg provides services such as the following:
- Monitor excavation/removal of contaminated materials (COPR) from the site.
- Install/seal metal sheeting in the ground to protect deep foundations from contaminated materials
- Monitor blow counts and installation of driven piles for foundations
- Monitor depths/soils and perform tests on drilled shafts for foundations
- Inspecting installation of rebar cages for piles, shafts, footings, columns, pier caps, pedestals, and bridge decks
- Monitor testing of concrete being poured
- Meet with the contractor’s engineers to go over pay quantities and inspection checklists
- Submit daily reports keeping track of manpower, machine use, various quantities, and CSI sections
- Going through plans, shop drawings, and RFIs to be constantly up-to-date on any design changes that were approved for construction of the bridge.
- Ensure safe working practices on site.
