Project Profile
The Connecticut Department of Transportation has initiated the Walk Bridge Program to replace the 121-year-old deteriorating railroad bridge that crosses the Norwalk River in Norwalk, CT. The replacement of the walk bridge provides safe and reliable rail transportation services while improving navigational capacity and dependability for waterway users. The new bridge is redundant with two independent moveable spans. This will allow one span, or two tracks, to remain in use when the other needs to be serviced.
The CEI team began work on two advanced projects, CP243 Interlocking and Danbury Branch Dockyard Projects (a combined $237 M in construction). These projects were independent of the Walk Bridge Replacement Project and improved the dependability of operations on the mainline and shortened the distance of two-track operations for passenger services during the construction. The CP243 Interlocking Project constructed a new four-track interlocking, which was a powered switch and signal system that allowed trains to move from one track to another. The Danbury Branch Dockyard Project consisted of rail improvements and the electrification of the southern portion of the Danbury Line from the mainline to approximately one mile north in the area commonly referred to as the Dockyard.
In addition to supplying Office Engineering support, Garg will provide the team’s rail systems inspection. This includes inspection of tracks, signals, communications, and catenary systems.
