Garg performed over 385 statewide safety inspections for freight railroad bridges, including 1 moveable bridge and 14 bridges requiring underwater inspections. In addition, Garg completed load ratings on 47 of these structures including analyses of deck girder bridges, deck truss bridges, and thru truss bridges. Many of these bridges are over 100 years old and have historical significance
- Providing specialized equipment, protective personnel, and traffic control for safe and complete access to bridges.
- Coordinating and scheduling with CTDOT, Rail Agencies, Towns, Coast Guard, and ACOE.
- Performing inspections and preparing reports with findings per the requirements of FRA Bridge Safety Standards 49 CFR Parts 213 & 237, Railroad Bridge Management Program (RBMP), and Railroad Bridge Inspection Manual (RBIM).
- Completed load ratings for all steel structures. In-depth inspections performed for load ratings included obtaining as-built measurements for all components since many of the structures have no plans on file. The analyses were performed using STAAD for computing the maximum dead and live loads and custom Excel spreadsheets for evaluating as-built and as-inspected section properties and load ratings.
- Based on the findings from the inspection and load ratings, targeted repair recommendations were provided, where required, to increase Cooper E80 ratings. For many of the bridges, this included steel repairs to girder bottom flanges.
- Quality Control / Quality Assurance.
